Sophomore

Work 1:
Chelsea has made the selections she has based on her improvement from freshmen year and her new found interests that could possibly lead to her future. Her first piece is a stop-motion animation from Media. Chelsea has an interest in the editing and filming field and always has since the beginning of middle school. She found an enjoyment in this project to think ahead and to convey a message to viewers through the images in the project. For once she didn't think about what would get her a good grade, but what would be a good idea. Not "would this get us a 10" but "would you enjoy making this". Not saying she didn't care for the grade, just she was proud of the work her and her group put in to make the project possible. She not only got out a good grade but got a chance to find herself through this project sense.
Work 2:
Another piece of work Chelsea decided to add was her math unit 8 project. The reason she picked this is because of the difficulty she had when she first started this work. Despite some errors she had made she feels this shows her growth in the general topic she would struggle in, compared to how she understands the concept currently. By completing the work she has she was able to have a new understanding of the work given out in class and felt as if she became an "expert" of this topic. She proved to herself how hard work really does pay off in the end.
Work 3:
Last piece of work Chelsea picked was her completed lab report. This written piece was based off her last completed lab in her chemistry class during her sophomore year. She felt this piece should be chosen as her writing piece to show her understanding of how a lab has its affects and outcomes done in a certain process. Over the course of her sophomore year and freshmen, Chelsea has progressed in the understanding of each of these labs. Another way of showing how she continues to grow as a student.

When you're a sophomore, it seems like you're trying to figure things out. Expectations on your grades are high because you've had a year to understand how high school really works. Chelsea sophomore year was her turning point. That's not something you can tell just by her grade difference, but the effort she's attempted to put in her work. She spotted her struggles and focused on them more in order to grow as a student. That's what high school is overall about. Past the work and social part, high school is about growing as a person beyond your education to see the person you end up becoming in the end. That's what Chelsea did and will continue to do as a student and person. She will grow by exploring her options and focusing on what's needed going into her junior year at Frank McCourt High School.
